Artworks keep singers alive
Paintings of singers Miriam Makeba and Margaret Mcingana, two of Johannesburg's greats, have been installed on the streets bearing their names in Newtown. >>

Two new projects on go in Newtown
The derelict - but historically important - Potato Shed and Transport House in Newtown will be saved. Plans include a mall, a hotel, offices, apartments and an open square. >>

Gentleman's game for inner city
The inner city will soon have its own cricket pitch, evoking the neighbourliness of the "village oval". Also on the cards is an inner city primary school league. >>

Deliverables in the Inner City Charter are being met, according to an independent audit, and emphasis is being placed on speeding up specific commitments. >>

The draft Integrated Development Plan and budget for the 2009/10 financial year is open for comment. It's a chance for residents to have their voices heard. >>

UDZ – tax incentive
The Urban Development Zone tax incentive is an incentive scheme aimed at encouraging inner city renewal across South Africa. Any taxpaying, property owning, individual or entity may claim the tax benefits of the UDZ incentive. >>
